No entanto, e apesar de passar despercebido, ao seu lado \u00e9 poss\u00edvel encontrar o Castelo dos Mouros, a 450 metros do ch\u00e3o.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embora menos conhecido que a atra\u00e7\u00e3o sua vizinha, o Castelo dos Mouros \u00e9 uma paragem obrigat\u00f3ria para quem visita a regi\u00e3o. With the intention of being used for defense, including the maritime accesses to Lisbon, since from its walls it is possible to see the Atlantic Ocean, this construction had a strategic position for the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Legend has it that in 1147, after the voluntary surrender of the Castle of Sintra by the Moors, D. Afonso Henriques sent a group of crusaders to the Castle with fear of a surprise attack. On their way, unexpectedly, the crusaders saw Our Lady Mary, who gave them the strength to continue. Thus, the Crusaders faced the Moors and defeated them, conquering the Castle. This legend may have led to the construction of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Milides, in Colares, Sintra. Later Gualdim Pais, master of the Order of the Temple, received the role of manager of the village of Sintra, including this Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:59px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">the construction of the castle dates back to the 18th-9th centuries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To <strong>get here<\/strong> you can use different means of transport, being the most recommended and cheapest the bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A entrada no Castelo \u00e9 feita atrav\u00e9s de uma escadaria que, sendo um pouco longa, deve ser feita com calma. Primeiramente, ainda antes da Bilheteira, surge um edif\u00edcio onde \u00e9 poss\u00edvel conhecer alguma da hist\u00f3ria do local, assim como ver objetos j\u00e1 encontrados.&nbsp;&nbsp;Esta \u00e9 atualmente o Centro de Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o do Castelo dos Mouros. No entanto, foi a princ\u00edpio chamada de Igreja de S\u00e3o Pedro de Canaferrim, tendo sido a primeira Igreja Paroquial de Sintra. Posteriormente, nas m\u00e3os de D. Fernando II, tornou-se numa ru\u00edna rom\u00e2ntica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right in front we find an ancient tomb. In it were buried the bones found, not knowing whether they were Christian or Muslim bones. It is also here that a plaque appears indicating the different rows of the existing walls and their dates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only later, after crossing an entrance in the wall, do we arrive at the ticket office and, consequently, begin the visit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently (2020) the route through the Castle follows a certain order. So, we continued along the Walls, along which the different Portuguese flags emerged over the years. In addition to this flag, next to the Pra\u00e7a das Armas (an open area that allowed the gathering of troops) there is a green flag, the color of Islam, with the word \u201cSintra\u201d written in Arabic, thus representing the passage of the Moors through this Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">d. fernando II, the \u201cartist-king\u201d used the castle landscape, towards the Pena Palace, to get inspired<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"667\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rotadoamanha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CasteloMouros_2_5.jpg\" alt=\"Entrada do Castelo\" class=\"wp-image-7856\" style=\"border-width:3px;border-radius:20px;width:440px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rotadoamanha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CasteloMouros_2_5.jpg 667w, https:\/\/www.rotadoamanha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CasteloMouros_2_5-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.rotadoamanha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CasteloMouros_2_5-8x12.jpg 8w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this same area we find the so-called Porta da Trai\u00e7\u00e3o (\"Door of Betrayal\"), hidden among the stones. A Door that allowed soldiers to access the outside and, in case of danger, escape. It also allowed the entry of enemy troops inside the Wall, hence its name.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the path, we pass the so-called Royal Tower. This would be a place where King Fernando II came looking for inspiration. It is also from here that we can see the Pena Palace in all its splendor, marking the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this visit appears to be simple, the feeling we have is that of visiting the top of the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A visit to the Moorish Castle offers an incredible view, whether of the city of Sintra, the Pena Palace or the Atlantic Ocean, destinations that, in the distance and through the fog, seem to attract those who look at them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:56px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\"
